Also on the top half of the draw, Olga Savchuk defeated Hsieh Su-Wei, 64 64, and will next play seventh-seeded Ayumi Morita.
On the bottom half of the draw, No. 3 seed Peng Shuai, runner-up here last year to Vera Zvonareva, handled Chanelle Scheepers, 63 62.
